Find Housing

Housing in the U.S. is often expensive. Finding an affordable place to live can be difficult, and your first home may not be your ideal choice. However, with a steady income, you will be able to choose a future home that suits your income and needs.

Housing in the U.S.

Depending on your immigration status and how you arrived in the U.S., IRC offices may be able to help you find a place to live. IRC will look for clean and affordable options in a safe neighborhood. It may be in an apartment or a hotel, or you may stay with relatives who have already here in the U.S. If you are single, you may be placed with other single refugees of your same gender.

Your house or apartment will usually have a kitchen with a stove, sink, and refrigerator; a living and dining area; one or more bedrooms; a bathroom; and closets.

IRC offices can often supply your first home with basic furniture and household items, such as linens, kitchen supplies, and personal care items. These items should be in good condition, but they do not have to be new.
