The IRC in Des Moines

The IRC’s Des Moines office opened its doors in June 2022, first welcoming families from the DRC and Afghanistan. Iowa has a decades-long history of welcoming refugees, beginning with Governor Robert Ray welcoming Tai Dam refugees in the 1970s.

Our services in Des Moines

Our support in Des Moines for eligible clients includes the following:

  • Welcoming clients when they first arrive in the United States and helping those clients with their basic necessities, including food, healthcare, and housing
  • Supporting clients with achieving self-sufficiency by providing job training, career counseling, and support with job searches
  • Financial education relating to financial knowledge and managing finances in the United States
  • Intensive support for clients who may face additional barriers to adapting to the United States
