Services for New Arrivals in Seattle

The IRC in Seattle has several programs to help you start your new life in the United States.

Important Update 
The Reception and Placement program at IRC has been shut down indefinitely. If you are someone who arrived in the United States after or around January 24th 2025 and require case management or other support, please visit our office in SeaTac or send an email to seattle@rescue.org. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am – 5 pm.

Case Management Services Provided by the Casework Team

The majority of core services will take place within the first 90 days after arrival/enrollment in services. In the state of Washington, clients are eligible for services for up to 5 years after their date of eligibility. The type of services provided will look different over the course of the 5 years of eligibility, with the most intensive services and most contact with IRC staff occurring in the first 90 days to 1 year.  

Short-term and Extended Case Management  

  • Assistance with public benefits applications (SNAP, TANF, WIC, RCA, Medicaid and Childcare)
  • Referrals to mental health and health care providers
  • Referrals to public or non-profit entities that provide rental, utility, or transportation assistance
  • Referrals for employment services
  • Referrals to other organizations that provide refugee support services

 

Initial Resettlement Services

  • Assistance with public benefits applications (SNAP, TANF, WIC, RCA, Medicaid)
  • School enrollment  
  • SSI applications
  • Housing assistance
  • Initial health screening  
  • AR-11 Change of Address, Selective Service Registration, EAD applications and other paperwork
  • Referrals to medical and mental health specialists, immigration services, ESL, and employment services  
  • Direct assistance (provided based on need)

 

Self-Sufficiency Workshops

  • Financial Literacy classes - taxes, credit building, banking, managing finances
  • Safety while driving, how and when to contact 911, police contact and interactions

 

Community Integration Workshops

  • Security Awareness – report emergencies, address issues related to harassment and racial discrimination, rights and responsibilities as a tenant
  • Housing – comprehensive information to ensure housing stability for low-income individuals and how to apply for rental assistance

 

Housing Stabilization Services  

  • Rental assistance for eligible clients  
  • Referrals to services that support housing stability  
  • Referrals to legal aid for eviction  
  • Assistance with applying for energy assistance and affordable housing programs
